Helping Local Hungry during the Holidays

United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd and local charities around the valley have seen an increase in the food needs of local families in the last few years. “Our in-house food pantry used for emergency situations has been hit extremely hard in the past few months. We’ve had to turn away local families who simply have the most basic need… food.” states Justina Sumpter, Marketing and Public Relations Manager of United Way.

This year, United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd has teamed up with partner charities; Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP), Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and Floyd County Emergency Assistance Program (FCEAP). The four charities have teamed up to provide local families with a Thanksgiving dinner box filled with Thanksgiving dinner essentials. United Way will be collecting Thanksgiving food donations the entire month of October. Donations can be dropped-off at the United Way office in downtown Christiansburg, located at 111 West Main Street. Drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Fridays from 8:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.

United Way will sort all donations in their office and compile food boxes that will be delivered to MCEAP, Daily Bread and FCEAP. Dinner boxes will be distributed in November. If you or someone you know is in need of a Thanksgiving dinner box, please contact the following charity based upon the area you live for more information:
