United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd is in full holiday planning mode! We are seeking individuals, companies, and civic groups that are interested in joining us in the holiday giving spirit by articipating with our Holiday Meal Box program. United Way has teamed up with partner charities; Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP), Radford Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) and Floyd County Emergency Assistance Program (FCEAP). The four charities are working to provide local low-income families with Holiday Meal Boxes filled with holiday dinner essentials.
Holiday Hunger Assistance
“Imagine being a mother who is already seeking emergency food assistance from a local food bank every few months, just to make sure there is enough food on the table for her family. Or a young father looking for a job, worrying about how he will pay his family’s electric bill. The holidays are often a time of worry for the families we are helping through this program. Together we can unite and change that, by taking the burden of providing a nice holiday meal off of families who are already spending a lot of their time and money on basic essentials. Together we can make the holiday season brighter for local families!” shared Kymn DavidsonHamley, Executive Director of United Way.
Last year’s United Way Holiday Meal Box efforts provided 1,752 individuals with a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal box, an increase of 586 individuals fed from the previous year. While this was a wonderful accomplishment, there are still many more individuals who need this valuable assistance and resources are not available. With partnerships and more community support, United Way aims to serve all low-income families in our community that have not been served by partnering programs.
If you, your company, or civic group are interested in running a Holiday food drive, please contact the United Way office. Together we can unite and make sure no family in our community goes without a holiday meal! Donations can also be dropped-off at the United Way office in downtown Christiansburg, located at 111 West Main Street. Drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Fridays from 8:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. After hour drop-offs can be arranged.
