Results From United Way's 4th Annual Drive-Thru Breakfast

On Friday, May 18th, United Way of the New River Valley hosted its fourth annual United Way Drive-thru Breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Christiansburg, and raised $2,500 to provide for critical human and health needs throughout the New River Valley.

For a $10 donation, customers received a breakfast bag stuffed with a hot biscuit, baked good, fruit, a freshly brewed Starbucks coffee, and a copy of The News Messenger. All food was generously donated by Hampton Inn, Wades, Hethwood Market, Starbucks - Christiansburg, and Next Door Bake Shop. This year we also had our first sponsorship for this event thanks to First Team Nissan of New River Valley!

“The money raised at this event makes a significant impact for our organization and our local partner agencies”, stated Rachel Stanford, Resource Development Associate at United Way. “Some ways $2,500 could be put to use in our community are 96 backpacks full of school supplies for low-income children, provide 16 men with 13 nights of shelter each in the winter months, or over 125 Reading Workbooks for Adult Basic Literacy Students. We’d like to especially thank the Hampton Inn for hosting the event and First Team Nissan of New River Valley for sponsoring it, our faithful volunteers who helped make it a success, and everyone who heard about the event and came by that morning!”

The New River Valley is full of so many generous companies, organizations, and people, and this is an excellent example of what our community is capable of when we unite together to help others. If you missed the Drive-thru Breakfast this year, be on the lookout for this fundraiser next spring!
