On Friday, May 31st, United Way of the New River Valley hosted its fifth annual United Way Drive-thru Breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Christiansburg and raised $2,876 to provide for critical human and health needs throughout the New River Valley.
For a $10 donation, customers received a breakfast bag stuffed with a delicious breakfast. The breakfast bags included a breakfast biscuit from Wade's, a pastry from a variety of local bakeries, water or coffee from Starbucks, and a newspaper from The News Messenger.
The money raised at this event makes a significant impact for our organization and our local partner agencies. Some ways $2,876 could be put to use in our community are 115 backpacks full of school supplies for low-income children, helps 9 families to stay in their current Montgomery home for 30 days through the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance rental assistance program, or provides over 140 Reading Workbooks for Adult Basic Literacy Students. We’d like to especially thank the Hampton Inn for hosting the event and First Team Nissan of New River Valley for sponsoring it, our faithful volunteers who helped make it a success, and everyone who heard about the event and came by that morning!”
The New River Valley is full of so many generous companies, organizations, and people, and this is an excellent example of what our community is capable of when we unite together to help others. If you missed the Drive-thru Breakfast this year, be on the lookout for this fundraiser next spring!
