United Way Celebrates Volunteers & Supporters

On Tuesday, June 28th the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd recognized local businesses, individual donors, and volunteers who supported the organization throughout the 2015-2016 year. A celebratory lunch was held for 100 attendees at Blacksburg Country Club, sponsored by Campus Automotive and Maaco.

Guests enjoyed grilled chicken, a vegetable medley, mashed potatoes, and an assortment of cake while overlooking the Blacksburg Country Club’s golf course. United Way Executive Director, and emcee, Kymn Davidson-Hamley and Treasurer, Jo Lynn Price, presented awards to 15 companies and individuals. One of the top and most distinguished volunteer awards, the Karen Cronin Community Volunteer Award, was presented to Lynn Rogers of Quest Floor Care. Davidson-Hamley announced, “This award is being given to a valued volunteer and donor who is actively involved with our organization and works hard to better our community. In addition to growing a small business with her husband, she dedicates herself to our organization by helping United Way plan successful fundraisers, working tirelessly on raffle items and prizes, always being one of the first people and companies to want to participate in a new project, and always finds a way to give more. She understands the importance of helping others and is a wonderful example to us all to get involved and work hard to make change happen.”

Over 40 companies and individuals were recognized for their support in the 2015-2016 United Way community impact efforts. Each of the award winners received a plaque for their efforts to build community resources for local needs. The following companies and individuals received awards for their achievements:

At the conclusion of the celebration, Kymn Davidson-Hamley shared, “We hope you celebrate your involvement with United Way and ask you to please continue your work with us. While we have accomplished so much there are many more families each day that walk through a charity’s doors for the very first time in the New River Valley. Neighbors anguished over losing their jobs and health insurance, children whose eyes light up when we hand them a box of cereal, and friends who stay awake at night wondering where they will live next month.  The needs are here, you are here, and we thank you for understanding what it truly means to “bloom where you’re planted” and reach out to your neighbors. Our work helping others is valuable, our work with our partners is life changing, and when each of us in this room and community unite…. We make the New River Valley a better place.”

Please join United Way in thanking these outstanding companies and individuals who make a world of difference in the New River Valley.
