United Way Fundraiser “A Formal Affair: Casino Night” BIG Success

Bad luck doesn’t always fall on the 13th. This was especially true for United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd. On Saturday, April 13th the organization hosted their third annual Formal Affair: Casino Night. The odds were in their favor as 220 guests from the New River Valley arrived to red carpet treatment at The German Club Manor. Attendees from around the New River Valley tested their luck on the black jack tables and danced to live music by Awesomesauce and DJ Gene Broadus with Dynamic Sound. Guests also enjoyed prime rib, miniature cheesecakes, took photos at Katie Thacker’s photo booth, perused the silent auction items and placed bids on horse racing. Thousands of dollars were donated in prizes from local artisans, businesses and individuals to entice guests to purchase extra raffle tickets and receive complimentary casino play money!

Holly and Micah Kobia, one of the biggest winners of the night, won the most sought after prize, a TREK road bike worth over $2,000 donated by East Coasters. “My husband Micah and I had a wonderful time dancing, playing casino games and eating great food. You can’t beat having a great time and knowing all the proceeds benefit a local charity that does so much good for people in our community. Not to mention we ended up winning great prizes! We'll definitely come again next year.”

By the end of the night, United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd had netted over $16,500 to benefit their local community building efforts. The proceeds will be used in the support of the 26 local charities that United Way supports and will directly benefit the local needs in our community. This was an annual event and United Way looks forward to hosting A Formal Affair: Casino Night next year! They hope that you will join them for a fun formal evening out.
