School can be hard for most children and sending them to school without the supplies they need can make it even worse. United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd, area businesses and individuals have been working hard to collect school supplies since July 1st to make sure no child in our area is sent to school without the supplies they need. Two of United Way’s Stuff the Bus events have passed; Floyd’s produced $230 in donations and 45 items and Radford’s produced $62 and 710 items! But we’re not done yet!
Two stops down and one to go! Montgomery County’s Stuff the Bus Event will take place this Saturday, August 17th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Big Lots in Christiansburg. A school bus will be parked at Big Lots the entire day to allow local residents to donate supplies and “stuff the bus.” In addition to the bus there will be a local racecar parked by racecar driver, Richard Caldwell, for children to sit in and enjoy and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream samples will be given out. Please stop by and make a school supply donation to help local children.
If you’re unable to attend the event but would still like to contribute, donation locations are located throughout Montgomery County until September 4th at Kroger on South Main Street in Blacksburg, Dollar General Market in downtown Christiansburg and Big Lots in Christiansburg.
All items received at Montgomery County donation locations will be given to children in need in Montgomery County.
In 2012, residents across the New River Valley donated 12,000 items and served 413 children. Although last year’s Stuff the Bus campaign was a huge success, many children and families had to be turned away. With growing needs in the New River Valley, more and more children need our help. We ask local residents to please join us in our efforts to provide school supplies.
