Valentine’s Day - Vegas Style!

United Way Guests Celebrate Valentine’s Day - Vegas Style!

225 guests spent their Valentine’s Day weekend with United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd who hosted their fifth annual formal fundraiser, Valentine's in Vegas. The event was held on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 at the German Club Manor in Blacksburg.

Guests enjoyed live rock music by PolyChrome, seared salmon at the buffet, placed bids at the horse track, and hit the dance floor to deejay Mark Taylor. This year’s silent auction and prizes featured donated items from local businesses and included North Face jackets, a GoPro, a tour of the Virginia Tech indoor practice facility, restaurant gift cards, an Ace Adventure whitewater rafting day trip, and much more! The lucky winners at the end of the night took home 33 prize packs and 12 silent auction items, a combined value of almost $10,000.
The fundraising event raised just over $12,000 that United Way will invest into their local human and health building efforts and the 24 local charities they support. The evening saw a $4,700 increase from the prior year’s formal fundraising event. “We have already seen an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and we are very grateful so many people spent their Valentine’s Day with United Way! Valentine’s Day is all about showing you care and that’s what our guests did. They came out to have some fun, spend time with their friends, and most importantly they shared their love by helping those less fortunate in our community. It was a wonderful event and we hope everyone will mark their calendars to attend next year!” commented Justina Sumpter, assistant director of United Way.
A special thank you to United Way’s sponsors who made Valentine’s in Vegas possible: Cumulus Blacksburg, AeSirTech, Citizens, HHHunt/Foxridge, Kroger, SunTrust, Carilion Clinic, Old Town Printing, Campus Automotive, and CrossFit 460.
